Telespazio (Finmeccanica/Thales) strengthens its rule in Antarctica as the main supplier of satellite services to ENEA, the Italian National Agency For New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, and PNRA (National Antarctic Research Program of Italy).

The contract concerns the supply for the next two years (renewable for an additional two years) of MMS services based on Inmarsat technology and Iridium in support of the National Research Program in Antarctica.

The satellite equipment will be used by researchers in both Antarctic Stations: Mario Zucchelli Station, the Italian research station located at Terra Nova Bay and Concordia Research Station, built 3.233 m above sea level at a location called Dome C on the Antarctic Plateau, Antarctica.

Telespazio’s role in the Antarctic began with the supply of a dedicated satellite link (SCPC) at the International Concordia Research Station to provide access to all communications, data, voice and broadband internet services.
